Conservation Assesment of Calcareous Ecosystems in Pennsylvania
This report provides a statewide assessment of the conservation value and status of calcareous habitats, both upland and wetland, primarily from a plant ecology perspective. In Pennsylvania, calcareous rock is a minority component in the state’s surface geology. There has long been an informal understanding among botanists that calcareous habitats are particularly interesting and host some unusual plants that are not found on other bedrock types.
