Here we present the results of a two-part study on the effect prescribed burns on oak-hickory
and bear oak ecosystems. Part I investigates the effect of prescribed burning and forest thinning
on avian communities. We found that early successional species respond positively and
strongly to both types of treatments. However, forest-interior species decreased in response to
fire and forest thinning. Part II examines the effects of prescribed burns on food webs. We found
that species are highly resilient to fire and few species alter their diets in response to fire.
