Implementation of Recovery Plan for Paxistima canbyi at a known Limestone site
The Recovery Plan for Canby’s mountain lover (Paxistima canbyi) identifies two key threats: the presence of the Euonymus scale, and invasion of the community by exotic plant species (Goad et al 2019). Through this project, we focused on addressing these two threats at one of three known extant sites in Pennsylvania. From April to September 2021, we visited the site six times. We coordinated and held one stewardship workday to remove invasive plants and subcontracted for additional invasive species removal. We treated for Euonymus scale and monitored for any scale outbreaks. We developed and trialed a pilot monitoring protocol in 2021 and here we propose a revision to that protocol. Our work also identified ongoing management needs.
