The primary objective of our study was to gather the best information possible on the breeding distribution of the Northern Goshawk within the state by utilizing a citizen science approach which targets outreach at groups that spend time in remote areas and may encounter nesting goshawks (e.g. foresters and land managers, turkey hunters, birders, falconers etc) and providing a website and contacts for reporting observations. Additional objectives include checking all credible reports of nesting goshawks to ensure data accuracy and to enter nest data into PNDI; rechecking sites with nesting goshawks reported during the second atlas; conducting a review and threats analysis of potential causes of decline; and monitoring success of a sample of active goshawk nests.
