This Wild Resource Conservation Program (WRCP) study set out to fill in information gaps about the distribution and status of the Salamander Mussel and Mudpuppy populations in the Allegheny River and Ohio River pools. Thirty-seven SCUBA surveys were used to survey likely areas of Salamander Mussel and Mudpuppy habitat for the presence or absence of these species. Observations on the size and suitability of the available Salamander Mussel and Mudpuppy habitat were noted. Live trapping for Mudpuppies was conducted at 25 sites for the presence or absence of Mudpuppies. Data collected from this study was used to identify and prioritize potential river conservation and restoration areas consistent with the recommendations described in the Salamander Mussel species action plan.
