Wise management of Pennsylvania's natural resources depends on accurate and up-to-date information on the distribution and status of the state's biodiversity, especially those species considered to be of special conservation concern. The Wild Resource Conservation Fund provided funding to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History Herbarium in 2007 to record specimen label data, continue a program to confirm taxonomic identification of POSCIP specimens, conduct field surveys, provide herbarium services and provide a peer-reviewed published checklist for Fayette county.
