Annual Report, Algal Protists of Pennsylvania Project
Our goal for this project is to begin the process of inventorying protists of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, starting with algae. Algae are ubiquitous members of aquatic ecosystems and are also found in unusal habitats including soils and rock faces. The diversity and productivity of algae is tied closely to the nutrient status of waters so that in extreme and unusual habitats rare species are often found.
