Climate Change in Headwater Stream - a Baseline for Monitoring and Assessment
In order to provide a baseline for climate change among coldwater streams we located 100 m sampling reaches on 20 Laurel Hill sites previously surveyed by Sharpe et al. (1987) in 1983. During April 2011, we installed in-stream and riparian zone temperature monitors in three northwest (NW) and three southeast (SE) facing paired watersheds. In addition, monitors were installed in Laurel Hill and Loyalhanna creeks – major coolwater receiving streams along each slope.
