Expanding Hellbender Research into the Marcellus and Utica Shale Gas Regions of Pennsylvania

Report Summary:

In an attempt to document new hellbender populations in the Marcellus and Utica Shale regions of Pennsylvania, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC) and other partner organizations joined forces to complete one of the largest survey efforts which spanned three sampling seasons from 2014 to 2016. Survey crews sampled 45 different locations on 28 named streams totaling over 20.4 km or 20,408.4 m of stream reach surveyed in 18 different counties of Pennsylvania (Appendix 1).
