Efforts to control an invasive species become more difficult and expensive as the species becomes increasingly established within a region. It follows that prediction of future invasions, enabling subsequent early detection and rapid response, is a valuable tool for limiting the impact of invasive species over time. We created a short list of the species, not currently established in Pennsylvania, estimated to represent the greatest risks of invasion with serious consequences within the next ten years. We sent queries to professionals and reviewed the literature to produce a list of candidates for further analysis. After narrowing the list, we analyzed the species using a slightly modified version of the New York State Plant Ranking System for Evaluating Non-Native Plant Species for Invasiveness. A brochure was produced to raise awareness of the threats represented by these species.
