Habitat association models were derived for these species from more than 40,000 spatially explicit breeding bird observations made during the 2nd Pennsylvania Breeding Bird Atlas from 2004-2009, using the most recent land cover data available for the state. Used in combination with information on the distribution and extent of gap analysis program lands in Pennsylvania having conservation rankings of 1-3, there models can now be used to identify areas where the most significant conservation gaps may exist in Pennsylvania for WAP-Priority species. Furthermore, within existing protected conservation lands, the models can also be used to inform habitat management practices aimed at maintaining or enhancing populations of high conservation priority birds in the state.
